View larger. | Built for Tight Spaces Specially designed to get into those confined areas other saws simply can't reach, the Hatchet is the most compact and unique reciprocating saw on the market. Only 13-1/2 inches when fully pivoted, it fits between 16-inch on-center studs, as well as between rafters and joists. And its 3/4-inch stroke length makes the Hatchet ideal for pipe cutting or other types of cuts in tight spaces. Saves Time and Effort Powerful and efficient, the Hatchet represents the next level in reciprocating saws. The 7.5-amp Milwaukee motor ensures robust performance, while the 3,000-spm orbital cutting mechanism makes quick work of tough jobs. Blade changes are equally quick thanks to the heavy-duty steel Quik-Lok blade clamp system (accepts standard 1/2-inch shank Sawzall blades), which allows for easy blade changes without a hex key. For added convenience and flexibility, blades can be clamped upside down. Durable for Longer Life Built to last and able to tackle rough-and-tough job conditions, the Hatchet features a steel connecting rod and steel gear. Steel lends overall strength to the cutting mechanism and allows the tool to withstand countless impacts for a longer life. Optimum Control and Precision The Hatchet puts reliable control and precision right in the palm of your hand. Variable speed means you can select the correct speed for the job, and a cushion-grip handle means you'll get a firm hold. This unit is also counter-balanced for smooth operation with less vibration. Tool-Free Adjustments Designed for ease of use, the Hatchet includes a patented keyless shoe-release lever that allows for tool-free adjustments and efficient use of the blade and the depth-of-cut control. Its design also boasts a felt seal and no-countersunk area where the spindle exits the gear case. This results in less contamination and no pooling of water, making the Hatchet perfect for plumbers who are concerned about rust. The 6524-21 is backed by a five-year warranty.

Tools and Hardware Reviews of Milwaukee 6524-21 Sawzall The Hatchet Reciprocating SawCustomer Review: Cuts large bamboo like butter Summary: 5 Stars
I had about 1/4 acre of dense, running-type bamboo. It has been the bane of my existence since I moved here, and I've tried everything to get rid of it. Until now, we have been chopping it down periodically with a machete - not the safest thing to do.
I had always wanted a Sawzall, so when I saw this one, I bought it with bamboo in mind. I also ordered a couple of packages of pruning blades. When it arrived, I was impressed with how lightweight it is. I am a middle-aged woman without a lot of upper body strength and I can handle this easily. The quick-attach blade mechanism is superb. In fact, it was so easy to attach a blade, I was a little concerned that the blade would be secure, but I had no problems with blades coming out. What makes this a hatchet is that the body is articulated so that you can use it straight, or you can bend it down, so that you can hold it like a drill. It makes it easier to get into small or tight spaces.
This thing went through my bamboo like butter! I was able to cut through even 3" diameter stalks easily at ground level. It made clearing my bamboo jungle so much easier than with a machete. The blades lasted very well, too. I ended up using it for pruning and trimming up my live oak trees, too, and it performed beautifully. I LOVE this tool!
It comes in a nice, protective case and blades are readily available at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. I discovered there are blades for metal, too! I highly recommend this tool for making yard maintenance and general home repair. I will never be without one now.
