The Milwaukee Fastback Utility Knife is designed to activate the blade 3X faster than a two-handed opening knife. The Fastback utility knife features a one-handed blade opening for easy activation. A tool-free blade change offers less down time in the field, while a thin body design allows the user to easily store the knife in his pocket. An integrated gut hook and wire stripper also increase utility. Includes five replacement blades. Milwaukee is not normally known for it's ergonomics but it seems like they are changing. At first this knife looks like some designer got a hold of a french curve and went wild but it seems like there are reasons for this shape.
What I've hated with flip open utility knives is that the parts for all knives are made by the same company with the exact same parts and then the brand put on their own name, colors and accents but the design doesn't work to begin with. I like this one because it was designed from the ground up and a lot of thinking went into it.
The handle is solid metal and it fits my hand perfectly, the finger slot makes it so it doesn't slip when I put a lot of pressure on it, most other knives have a boxy handle that is either uncomfortable to hold or the slip while cutting things. The knife has a push button that makes it easy to flip open with just one hand, most other flip open knives are hard to get open and you always need two hands. I like the notch in the front part by the blade it is good for getting the insulation off of wires and since I am an electrician it's nice to have if I don't have my strippers around me. The gut hook is great for cutting small rope or string and you don't even need to flip the knife open.
For something as simple as a utility knife Milwaukee put a lot of thought into this. I guess they know there are people like me that use one everyday and are trying hard to meet our needs.
